The National Public Health Emergency Team (NPHET) meets this morning to discuss if now is the time to recommend wearing masks in public for Covid-19.

It is expected they will issue formal guidance shortly on when people should start wearing facial coverings, and how they should find, make and use them.

The death toll from the virus stands at 1,467, after a further 15 patients died, while there are now 23,135 confirmed cases.

The HSE says direct provision centres are now receiving priority testing.

However the National Public Health Emergency Team is still deciding whether or not everyone in them should be tested.

There are currently 1,700 residents in Direct Provision Centre's around the country - 149 had tested positive for the virus as of last Friday.

Business group IBEC wants any new government to implement a €15n 'reboot' fund within the first 100 days of the administration.

It is also calling for 25 billion to be added to the lifetime of the National Development Plan to help the country recover from the pandemic fallout.

IBEC says funding for the plans can come from various sources, including the Exchequer and private finance.

The new Oireachtas COVID-19 committee will meet today for the first time.

Its 19 members will aim to scrutinise the actions of government and other authorities in dealing with the coronavirus pandemic.

Today's sitting will involve the election of a chairperson and a programme of work will be established.

Rents dropped by their biggest amount in 10 years last month.

In April, they fell by 2.1% compared to March, due to the economic fallout from COVID-19.

A new report from Daft.ie says rents had increased in the first quarter of the year by nearly 4% on the same period last year.
