Morning top 5: No rail services operating due to strike; four men arrested in Dublin for 'conspiracy to murder'

The second of five 24-hour train strikes takes place today amid a pay dispute between Irish Rail workers and the transport company.

No trains are operating across the country as a result of the work stoppage.

A third strike day is currently planned for next Tuesday, with further stoppages scheduled for 23rd November and 8th December.

Gardaí believe they have foiled an attempted gangland shooting in Dublin.

Four men were arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder last night, while a gun & silencer were seized.

The four men - are aged in their 20s and 30s - and are believed to have links to the Kinahan crime gang.

The business group IBEC says Ireland's economy will grow by nearly 5% this year.

The latest IBEC/ESRI quarterly outlook also predicts unemployment should dip below 6%.

However, it also warns that lack of progress in Brexit negotiations could derail growth.

A report from the National Cancer Registry shows 8,770 people die from the disease annually.

However, the five-year cancer survival rate has increased to 61%, while there are around 167,700 cancer survivors in Ireland.
