Enda Kenny and Micheál Martin have spoken by telephone and have agreed to talk again today.

Contact between the two party leaders' took place last night after their negotiating teams adjourned talks when they were unable to resolve several issues, in particular the future of water charges.

If the two leaders can agree a way forward, then they will mandate their negotiators to resume talks.

Fine Gael want some form of water charges to remain in place, but Fianna Fáil want them suspended.

Sinn Féin says it is the voice of opposition, even if Fianna Fáil wants to stay there.

The Sinn Féin Ard Fheis continues in Dublin today. Last night delegates heard criticism of Micheál Martin for facilitating the return of Enda Kenny to the Taoiseach's office.

They passed a motion calling for the abolition of water charges, adding that any fig leaf of compromise between Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil would be opposed.

Police investigating the death of the singer Prince say there is "no reason to believe" it was suicide.

They have yet to rule out foul play after the 57-year-old was found dead at his home in Minnesota on Thursday.

A post-mortem has been carried out.

Luas services are operating as normal today, after the strikes scheduled for this weekend were called off.

Ticket collectors and traffic supervisors reached a deal in the ongoing row over pay, which will be put to a ballot of staff next week.

It is believed that the company has offered all staff a pay rise of 13% over three years.

The 400th anniversary of the death of William Shakespeare is being marked across the UK this weekend.

The English playwright was 52-years-old when he died and - although there is no record of his death - it is assumed he passed away on April 23rd.

His birthday will also be marked today and a parade will be held in Stratford-upon-Avon.
