A quarter of the global population are becoming less and less active, according to research by the World Health Organisation (WHO).
The data, which is published in the Lancet Global Health journal, warns very little progress has been made in reducing levels of inactivity worldwide.
Up to 30% of Irish men and 40% of Irish women are not getting enough physical activity.

The Government is being urged not to hold a referendum on the woman's place in the home on the same day as the presidential election.
The National Women's Council of Ireland says the constitutional reference to a woman's place is "undoubtedly sexist" but a "public discussion" is needed first.
It says simply removing the article will do nothing to recognise the men and women that give care in the home.

The US president has tweeted, saying the quotes featured are "frauds" and "a con on the public".

Primark has confirmed that staff at its Belfast store will be paid up to the end of next week after a massive fire that burnt down the building.
Over 100 firefighters battled the blaze last week, which gutted the historic city centre shop.
In a statement, the company said their "management team were working closely with colleagues to ensure they are being supported."
