The UK Foreign Secretary is warning Iran that it faces “serious consequences” if does not release a UK ship seized in the Strait of Hormuz yesterday.

Jeremy Hunt last night described Tehran's seizure of two UK flagged ships yesterday as "unacceptable."

One vessel has since been released, but the owners of the other say they are unable to make contact with it.

UK ships are being advised to stay away from the area until the situation is resolved.

Today is the 50th anniversary of the day humans first walked on the moon.

Events are taking place around the world to mark the milestone.

While on the surface, Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin collected samples, planted a US flag and spoke to President Richard Nixon.

Fine Gael TD Marie Bailey is reportedly set to lose the party whip over her personal injury claim against a Dublin hotel.

The Irish Times reports that the Taoiseach will announce the action next week following an internal party report into the controversy.

Ms Bailey sued the Dean Hotel in Dublin after falling off a swing at the property in 2015. She later withdrew her claim.

According to the report Deputy Bailey will not be returned to her position as Chair of the Housing Committee.

Gardaí are continuing to question a man after another man was stabbed to death in Dublin yesterday.

It happened at Clinch's Court in the North Strand area at around 4am.

A 45-year-old man was seriously injured and taken to the Mater Hospital, where he later died.

Gardaí arrested a 45-year-old man in connection with the stabbing yesterday. He is being held at Mountjoy Garda Station.

There are calls for a pathway to legalisation for the estimated 50,000 Irish people living undocumented in the US.

It follows the diplomatic row which saw Cork born father of three Keith Byrne sign a deportation order after overstaying his American visa.

Seanad spokesperson on Human Rights Senator Martin Conway said it is a terrifying development for the thousands of undocumented Irish living in America.
