The mother of two of the three children who died in an apartment fire in Clondalkin in Dublin yesterday is fighting for her life in hospital today.

The blaze - which also claimed the life of the third child's pregnant mother - was possibly started by an electrical fault in the sitting room.

Forensic tests to establish the cause of the fire will be carried out at the first floor flat today.

The Dáil will today debate and vote on the revised terms of reference for inquiry into the 'Grace' case.

Concerns had been raised by opposition parties that the original terms of reference were too narrow, and could have seen other alleged victims in the south-east foster home overlooked.

The Cabinet agreed to the changes last night.

A man remains in a serious condition in hospital following a hit and run incident in Dublin.

A car struck the man at Hazelwood Drive in the Artane area at around 10.00pm last night.

The injured man has been moved to Beaumont Hospital.

The car involved in the incident was found abandoned a short time later at Beechlawn grove, near Parnells GAA club.

Taoiseach Enda Kenny will join other European leaders in Brussels today for an EU summit.

It is likely to be British Prime Minister Theresa May's last summit before triggering Article 50, which will commence the Brexit process.

At today's summit there will also be talks on migration and the single market, as well as the re-election of Donald Tusk as EU Council president.

An Irishman and Frenchwoman have been rescued after their yacht's rudder broke, leaving them stranded in the Tasman Sea.

The pair were sailing from New Zealand to Australia when the rudder broke on Saturday, followed by the 20ft yacht capsizing several times before they activated an emergency beacon on Tuesday.

They were about 230 miles east of Sydney.
