The Dáil's new housing and homeless committee meets for the first time today, with a mission to propose new ways of tackling the crisis.

The cross-party committee has been charged with presenting an interim report in a matter of days and a final report by June.

It will hear evidence from people affected by the crisis and those working in the sector.

Talks on the formation of a minority government are due to continue this morning.

Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil indicated yesterday that they were making progress in the talks.

However, the acting justice minister Frances Fitzgerald appears to have ruled out the prospect of a deal being finalised in time for Enda Kenny to be re-elected Taoiseach this week.

A vote on the post does not appear on today's agenda.

There are fears for jobs at Intel's Irish manufacturing plant after the tech giant announced plans to cut 12,000 jobs over the next year.

Intel has a workforce of about 4,000 here centred on its plant in Leixlip, Co Kildare.

The US chipmaker says it wants to reduce dependence on the slumping personal computer market.

Donald Trump has won the Republican primary in New York, according to projections in the US media.

It means the billionaire extends his lead in the race to become the party's candidate to fight the US presidential election.

Media projections put Hillary Clinton ahead of Bernie Sanders in the Democratic Party's race in the state.

There has been strong growth in new car sales so far this year, according to the motor industry.

Nearly 83,000 new cars were sold in the first three months of this year. That is up 28% on the first quarter of 2015.

Sales of light commercial vehicles were up by one-third.
