Morning top 5: Historic climate deal to be signed in New York; Obama urges UK to stay in EU

Ireland is among more than 160 countries expected to sign up to the world's first comprehensive deal to tackle climate change at a ceremony in New York later.

The Paris Agreement was secured at United Nations talks in the French capital in December.

Under the deal the rise in global temperatures is limited to well below two degrees.

Talks between Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil on the facilitation of a minority Government will focus on water charges when they resume later.

Last night the parties insisted no deal had been done in the area and that they had not even discussed it yesterday.

That was despite reports they had reached a compromise deal that would suspend water charges, until a fairer regime is put in place.

US President Barack Obama has arrived in the UK as part of a planned three-day visit.

During his stay, he is expected to give his views on the UK's forthcoming EU referendum, and advise voters to remain in the European Union.

Writing in The Daily Telegraph, Mr Obama said the sacrifice of his country's soldiers during the Second World War means America has a stake in the referendum debate.

The US President and First Lady Michelle Obama are due to be hosted by Prince William and his wife Kate later today.

Ecuador has been hit by another powerful earthquake.

The magnitude 6 tremor has struck the country's north west coast - but there is no word yet on injuries or damage.

People in Ecuador are still recovering from an earthquake last weekend which killed 587 people.

The sister of pop star Prince has thanked fans outside his home in the US state of Minnesota after dozens of people turned up to pay tribute to him.

It was announced that the 57-year-old had died there yesterday.

The cause of the singer's death remains unclear, and an autopsy will be carried out later today.
