EU leaders and politicians from Balkan states have agreed a joint response to the refugee crisis.

It will see 100,000 places made available in reception centres along the route people take from Syria towards Germany.

The aim is to reduce the flow of people moving up from Greece and provide much more shelter as winter approaches.

At least five people are reported to have died after a whale-watching boat sank off the west coast of Canada.

27 people were on the vessel off Vancouver Island when officials received a mayday call.

A Louth Community Alert Group has released a document from the late Garda Tony Golden which raises a number of concerns about the lack of police resources in the Dundalk district.

Garda Golden was shot dead in Omeath earlier this month in the line of duty.

In the document - which dates back to 2013 - Garda Golden raises concerns about the reduction in Garda manpower and an over reliance on overtime.
