Budget 2020

The government is predicting an exchequer surplus of €609m in 2019.

The figure is revealed in its pre-budget White Paper, which sets out expected returns up to the end of this year.

However, threats of a no-deal Brexit and hundreds of million in overruns at the Departments of Health and Social Protection has seen it abandon plans to put €500m in a Rainy Day fund.

Kilkenny collision

A man in his 20s has died after the car he was driving hit a wall in county Kilkenny.

The incident occurred at around 1am this morning at Knockwilliam, Ballyhale.

A woman in her 30s, who was a passenger in the car, was removed to University Hospital Waterford with serious injuries.

EuroMillions winner

The National Lottery is urging Dubliners to check their tickets after last night's EuroMillions draw.

The punter scooped €2.5m after matching five numbers and one lucky star.

There was no winner of the huge jackpot worth €190m.

Newstalk wins Gold

It was an auspicious evening for Newstalk last night as the station brought home 21 accolades from this year's IMRO Radio Awards.

Newstalk won Station of the Year, taking home Gold in arguably the mostly highly anticipated category on the night.

The station won Gold in eight categories, including in the Current Affairs Programme, Speech Broadcaster and Sports Programme categories.
