Storm Lorenzo is expected to bring winds of up to 130 kilometres an hour to some western coastal counties later.

Galway, Mayo, Clare, Cork, Kerry and Limerick are forecast to be worst affected - with a status orange warning in effect in those areas from this evening.

A status yellow warning for wind and rain will also take effect nationally from 9.00am this morning.

The United States is to impose tariffs of up to 25% on a variety of EU products.

The Trump administration claims EU governments have illegally subsidised aircraft manufacturer Airbus.

Butter, cheese, yoghurt and pork products all make the list.

Taoiseach Leo Varadkar spoke with British Prime Minister Boris Johnson by phone last night to discuss the final British proposals for a Brexit deal.

Mr Varadkar says the last-ditch pitch does not meet the agreed objectives of the backstop agreement.

Three in 10 people know someone who is experiencing hidden homelessness.

The Simon Communities of Ireland say it is now rife in society as more people are being excluded from the housing market.

They say the issue, where someone lives temporarily in another's home, is highest among those under 25 and living in Leinster.

A new industry group wants to make hydrogen fuel available at filling stations on every main road in the country by 2030.

Hydrogen Mobility Ireland says a network of 76 stations would mean half the population would have one in their town.

It hopes the Government will put €14m into the scheme.
