More than 2,200 students have received 'round two' CAO offers today.

The Central Applications Office says 1,613 Level 8 offers and 724 Level 7/6 offers were made this morning.

Those numbers include more than 1,200 people receiving an offer for their first preference course.

It follows the first round last week, which saw 73,652 offers made to 50,746 CAO applicants.

Anyone who received an offer today will have until Friday evening to accept - a shorter window than in previous years, in order to allow new students to fully register ahead of the start of the academic year.

Eileen Keleghan, CAO communications officer, explained: “Many of the applicants receiving a second round offer today may have already accepted an offer in Round One, and it is important that they take the time to decide between these courses and inform CAO before the reply date

“If this is an applicant’s first offer they can choose to accept this offer and this will not prevent them from receiving a higher preference course in a later offer round if they are deemed eligible."

However, she stressed that the "majority of offers" have now been issued and applicants may not receive any other offers of courses.

She added that there are options available to anyone who hasn't been offered the course they want - including apprenticeship schemes, further education courses, reapplying to the CAO next year, or repeating the Leaving Cert.
