The Minister for Children says he wants the Commission of Investigation into mother and baby homes set up before the Dail goes into summer recess.

Charlie Flanagan has been giving an update on progress made so far - including the setting up of a special e-mail address for submissions.

The Minister is urging organisations and individuals who wish to make submissions on which institution should be included to do so as quickly as possible.

Minister Flanagan also says he will meet key advocacy groups and have further meetings with other political parties in the next couple of weeks to move the Commission forward.

"The government is anxious to have the Commission of Investigation established before the Dáil recess and has set a tight deadline. I am urging those who wish to make submissions to act without delay in availing of this opportunity to inform the considerations now underway" Minister Flanagan said.

The Commission will be statutory and independent, and operate under the Commission of Investigations Act, 2004.

The process of developing its terms of reference is being supported by a cross-departmental review committee, who will report to government before the end of June 2014.

The Minister has already confirmed it is intended that the scope of this investigation will go beyond the home operated by the Sisters of Bon Secours in Tuam and will deal with other mother and baby Homes, including the Bethany Home.
