Miley Cyrus is no stranger to baring her body parts in the name of her art or the craic, but now she is revealing something much more potent and divisive than naked flesh. She's revealing her support for Planned Parenthood, at a time when they need it most.

W Magazine have revealed that the 'Wrecking Ball' songstress has posed for a series of steamy photos for the photographer Marilyn Minter, that will be sold for $5,500 a pop, raising funds for the non profit that provides reproductive health services in the Unites States.

The organisation has witnessed a stunning rise in legislative assaults across America since anti-abortion activist David Daleiden released a series of sting videos last summer.

Politico reports that Missouri Republicans are threatening to jail the CEO of the local Planned Parenthood, Mary Kogut, and pathologist James Miller, if they are found in contempt of court for refusing to hand over documents, the pair claim would break their patients confidentiality.

John Oliver also delivered this stunning breakdown of the situation in the United States right now, where abortion is theoretically legal but not all that accessible.

Minter, who has raised €2 million for Planned Parenthood in the past with Dunham's mother Laurie Simmons, says that Cyrus was chosen because she was a great way of bridging the gap with a younger generation, while also not pandering. The star, unlike many others who flaunt their liberal and feminist credentials, has put her money where her mouth is.

"She’s been famous since she was 11 and she’s a great artist, so she doesn’t care about making money, she wants to give back," the artist told the website Artsy, who are selling the photographs.

"She founded the Happy Hippie Foundation, which supports LGBTQ youth. She flies commercial because she’s conscious of her carbon footprint. Now she’s going to help us with Planned Parenthood."

As well as the artwork, the pair have collaborated on risque t-shirts with the designer Marc Jacobs, and pins that are available to purchase at the gallery Shoot the Lobster and the bookstore Printed Matter.

“I’m of the age group where I remember when abortions were illegal and unsafe, and I thought this was behind us,” Minter says. “Planned Parenthood were being just inundated with controversy, and my mind was just thinking, ‘Well, maybe we should take our inspiration from the marriage equality movement and the gay rights movement. Get public figures, corporations, and institutions to stand up and fight back.’”
