There have been sightings of people taking pictures and selfies at the site of the farm of Michael Gaine, who was murdered earlier this year.
The farm has been getting considerable touristic attention, with Gardaí in the area having to put out cones along the site to prevent cars from setting down and taking pictures.
Independent Kerry TD and Junior Minister Michael Healy-Rae joined Andrea Gilligan on Lunchtime Live to express his outrage at the situation.
Michael Gaine
“You have people thinking that there’s something good about getting out of their car and taking selfies at the site of his farm.
“That’s not good behaviour.
“There are families involved; there are people deceased.”
Mr. Healy-Rae went on to describe his confusion over the situation: “The idea of people using the scene of that crime, like you’re not standing at the Cliffs of Moher.”
The Kerry TD also believes something needs to be done to prevent indecent phone use at a crime scene:
“Why do people think that it is socially acceptable - it could be someone falling - and people think they can take a picture or, worse again, a video”, he says.
“People think that their phone is like a weapon.”
He urged people to think before they take this type of action on their phone or on social media :
“Could people please be thoughtful of other people?” he says
“How would people feel if it was their family member?”
