Met Éireann has warned of potential storm force winds on Friday.
Forecasters have issued a status yellow weather advisory, saying it will be very windy across the country.
Parts of the coast may also experience storm force winds.
The warning comes into effect at 6am on Friday, and will be valid until 8pm this evening.
Meanwhile, Met Éireann is forecasting wet and blustery weather over the next 48 hours.
Heavy rain is expected to extend nationwide tonight, with possible sleet or wet snow in some parts - particularly high ground in Connacht and west Ulster.
Thursday is set to be a mix of sunshine and showers, with the showers more frequent in the western half of the country.
However Thursday night is set to be wet and blustery, ahead of the stronger winds on Friday.
Heavy rain will move in across the south and west of the country this evening, possibly turning to sleet and snow over the hills. A few showers elsewhere but holding largely dry.
