Angela Merkel has announced she's standing down as Germany's chancellor at the end of her term.

The 64 year-old, who's held the role since 2005, says she won't run in the 2021 election.

She's also leaving her post as leader of her conservative party, the Christian Democrats, in December - after 18 years.
