The two members of punk band Pussy Riot who managed to avoid arrest have fled Russia.

The three remaining members of the all-female punk band were prosecuted for staging a protest against Vladimir Putin at a church altar and were given a two-year jail sentence on August 17.

Earlier this week, Russian police confirmed that they were still searching for the other members of the band.

The pair were able to avoid being identified and arrested on site as they wore the group’s signature costume – bright woollen balaclavas – during the church performance.

Lawyers defending the convicted band members are expected to appeal against the ruling next week.
