Amid increased competition and consumers worried about a series of food safety concerns in Asia, McDonald's has been having a rough year when it comes to profits.
According to Forbes, they suffered a 21% drop in net income for the first quarter of 2015, and have been attempting to make changes to the brand in order to bring customers back and change their image slightly.
This has seen them experiment with gourmet burgers, customised ordering, all day breakfast and their latest idea, sweet potato fries.
A select number of restaurants in the Amarillo region in Texas are testing the new product, and while there are no plans to expand the offering on a larger scale at the moment, if the trial goes well then they may well make it a more permanent fixture on the menu.

As BuzzFeed point out, fellow fast food outlet Burger King has also tried offering sweet potato fries before, so McDonald's are not the first to attempt something along these lines, but with the vegetable becoming increasingly popular, it may help to get more customers in through the door.
However, there are also suggestions that it may become more of a regional offering, or that it would form part of a seasonal product on a changing menu.
