Mary Lou McDonald has insisted younger earners will not be worse off under Sinn Féin's pension plans.

But she has been challenged on the street in Dublin city by one voter, who says the party would "tax voters out of existence".

The man, who would not give his name, took issue with two interviews given by Sinn Féin leader Gerry Adams yesterday.

And he says the plans by the party for a marginal tax rate of 56% give young people no incentive to seek a good salary.

The man said he was apolitical - but would vote for Fine Gael because of its stance on the Universal Social Charge (USC).

Nonetheless, Ms McDonald made no apology for an extra tax band on income above €100,000.
