A man is being treated in hospital after he was stabbed a number of times during a street brawl in Cork.

Gardaí said the brawl broke out Pearse Square in Ballyphehane at around 9:30pm yesterday evening.

Two groups of people were involved and a number of them were armed with knives and bats.

A man in his 20s was stabbed a number of times during the brawl and was taken to Cork University Hospital.

His condition is described as stable.

No arrests have been made and the Garda investigation is ongoing.
