A 29 year old man has been remanded in custody to Castlerea Prison in connection with the false imprisonment of Longford business woman.
Janis Zarans with an address at 15 Weavers Hall, Market Square Longford appeared before a Special sitting of Longford District Court this evening.
Garda Orla Geraghty stated that following questioning at Longford Garda Station yesterday she had charged Mr. Zarans at half ten last night with the false imprisonment of Sabrina Cence at Heaton's carpark, Townspark, Longford town.
The court appearance follows a series of events on Wednesday evening where Ms. Cence, a local manager of food retail outlet in the town had been allegedly threatened at knife-point by Mr. Zarans and another man as she went back to her car.
The woman was then bundled into her car before they sped off towards the Athlone road.
After a pursuit by gardai, the car crashed into a ditch just before Kilashee and one man was injured and taken to hospital while Janis Zarans was arrested.
Gda Geraghty told the court today that when charged and cautioned Mr. Zarans said he "wanted to apologise to the woman".
No application for bail was made in court today.
Judge Grainne O'Neill remanded the accused in custody to appear at harristown District Court again next Friday the 7th of November.
