A Co. Meath man has reportedly pleaded guilty to causing the deaths of two Irish people in Australia.

The 31-year-old from Slane was extradited to the country earlier this month on dangerous driving charges which resulted in the death of a man and woman in their 20s.

It is understood the crash happened in Perth in October 2007 when the car crossed the centre median of the road. It overturned on its roof and smashed into an on-coming vehicle.

The man reportedly returned to Ireland a month later before any charges were made against him, with the Justice Minister only recently granting an extradition order.

ABC News reports he appeared in court via video link from prison, and pleaded guilty to two counts of dangerous driving causing death.

It says he admitted being behind the wheel of a small hatchback when it collided with another vehicle in Bedford almost 6 years ago, killing two of his passengers.

He was remanded in custody to appear in court again in October.
