He had been in a critical condition at CUH following emergency surgery on a traumatic leg injury.

An incident room has been set up at Cobh Garda station.

A Garda family liaison officer has been appointed and investigating officers have appealed for any witnesses or drivers with dash camera footage from Newtown Road in Cobh to contact them.

A post mortem will take place later today which Gardaí say will determine the course of their investigation.
