A man is in critical condition in hospital after an assault in County Kildare.

Gardaí said the man, aged in his 40s, was found outside a house in the Piercetown area of Newbridge at around 10:30am on Wednesday morning.

He had serious injuries and was taken to Naas General Hospital.

He remains in critical condition this morning.

A man in his 30s has been arrested and is being questioned at Newbridge Garda Station.

The scene at Piercetown has been sealed off for a technical examination.
