A man has died in a road crash in County Mayo this afternoon.

It occurred at around 1.30pm when the motorcycle he was riding collided with a van on the R331 between Claremorris and Hollymount.

The 55-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.

His body was taken to Mayo General Hospital where a post mortem is to be carried out.

The driver of the van was also taken to hospital as a precaution, however he was uninjured.
