A man has died following a rescue operation off the coast of Co. Waterford this morning.
2 men were taken to hospital after a fishing vessel capsized earlier.
One of the men who had been on board the 16-foot angling vessel managed to make it to shore and raise the alarm at 7:45am.
Two local lifeboats attended the scene while the Waterford based search-and-rescue helicopter took a second casualty from the water at around 8:40am.
He was transferred to an ambulance at Waterford Airport and taken to hospital but has since died.
Separate operation underway
Meanwhile 2 coastguard helicopters have been dispatched to evacuate an injured man from a fishing vessel 160 miles off the west coast.
The 54-year-old is thought to have been working on board the Spanish vessel when he suffered head injuries which left him unconscious.
A request for help from Ireland was made by the Marine Rescue Co-ordination Centre in Madrid after the vessel made contact with them via satellite phone.
The Shannon coastguard helicopter is en-route to the scene and will take the casualty back to hospital in Ireland.
The Sligo-based helicopter is also attending to provide cover.
