The victim of a serious assault in Galway city has been transferred to Beaumont hospital in Dublin this evening.

The 22-year-old was injured in the early hours of this morning after a row broke out outside a fast food outlet on Shop Street in the city.

He received a serious head injury and remains in critical condition.

Gardaí have launched an investigation into the incident and are appealing to anyone with information to contact them.
