Man charged over seizure of four loaded guns at Monaghan traffic stop

A Dublin man has been remanded in custody over the seizure of four loaded guns near Carrickmacross in County Monaghan on Wednesday.

34-year-old Robert Smullens of Halliday Road in Dublin 7 was charged with six counts of possession under the Firearms Act.

He was remanded in custody to Cloverhill Prison and will appear before Cloverhill District Court on September 5th.

Gardaí uncovered the guns during a routine traffic stop on the N2 at Lisanisk.

Investigators carrying out speed checks stopped a car and carried out a roadside drugs test on the driver. Gardai said he tested positive for cocaine and opiates

A 34-year-old man was arrested and taken to Carrickmacross Garda Station.
