A court has heard children became hysterical and said ‘We’re going to die’ when they saw a man brandishing a knife in Dublin city centre.

A man has appeared in court charged with the incident which happened yesterday on Parnell Square.

The court heard it would be alleged at 8.42am on Tuesday morning the accused man Oisin Peavoy - of Granby Row in Dublin 1 - was brandishing a knife and acting in an erratic manner on Parnell Square.

The court heard the 38-year-old threatened a woman with her baby and told her to 'f*** off'.

It would then be alleged he blocked a coach full of children aged between 6 and 12 who were leaving a creche.

Some became hysterical and two children could be heard saying ‘We’re going to die’.

Some 35 minutes later on Gardiner Street Upper it would be alleged the accused man went to a different bus with children on it and pointed at a knife in a sheath in his belt.

The Judge said the accused man is a danger to the public in his present state.

He remanded Mr Peavoy in custody for a week and directed medical assistance.
