In Australia a man has been charged with the murder of Irish backpacker David Greene who died in hospital in Melbourne last week.
31-year-old Luke-James Wentholt had previously been charged with assault following the attack at a boarding house in St. Kilda East last month.
30-year-old David Greene and his friend 28-year-old David Byas were injured with a hammer during the assault.
They are both from Dun Laoghaire in Dublin.
David Greene sustained life threatening injuries and remained at The Alfred hospital where he passed away last Friday.
Meanwhile David Byas is recovering in a rehabilitation centre.
Luke-James Wentholt was charged with the alleged assault of two men on August 27th.
Investigators have today upgraded the charge to murder and the man will appear before the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court later today.
