A 19-year-old man has been charged at Portlaoise District Court with assault causing harm to a woman in Birr earlier this month.
Marie Gauvin who had travelled home from Canada for the celebrations was struck by a glass missile on August 4th and may never regain the vision in her right eye.
The man was arrested on Thursday in connection with the incident.
Gary Ward of Scurragh in Birr was charged with assault causing harm. He appeared before a special sitting of Portlaoise District Court this morning.
When he was charged by gardai in Birr his reply was "I still didn't do it".
He was remanded on continuing bail to appear before Birr District Court again on December 10th.
Three bail conditions were also attached: he has to sign on Monday, Wednesday and Friday at Birr garda station, he has to observe a curfew between 10pm and 8am, and he is also to have no contact with any witnesses involved in the case.
Legal aid was assigned.
