A man has appeared in court following a protest earlier today in which eggs were thrown at the car of Tánaiste Eamon Gilmore.
The demonstrations forced him and the Minister for Children Frances Fitzgerald to abandon an event to promote a Yes vote in the Children’s Rights referendum.
When the they arrived at The Base in Ballyfermot their car was surrounded by protesters from Eirigi and People Before Profit waving placards and flags.
The demonstrators pelted the car with eggs, spat at the window and kicked it.
The 2 ministers were forced to abandon the event organised by UNICEF to promote a Yes vote in the upcoming Children’s Referendum.
This afternoon 28-year-old Daniel Kelly of Harold’s Cross Road appeared in court accused with breaching the peace and causing less than €200 worth of criminal damage to the 5-series BMW.
He has been remanded on bail until October 26th on condition he stays away from public events where government ministers are in attendance.
