A Brief History of Seven Killings by Jamaican author Marlon James has been announced as the winner of this year's Man Booker Prize.
The novel, the third by Mr James (44), is set over several decades, and covers the attempted assassination of Bob Marley, the US drugs trade in the 1970s, the changes experienced by Jamaica in the late 20th century, and much more.
The New York Times wrote in their review that, "spoof, nightmare, blood bath, poem, A Brief History of Seven Killings eventually takes on a mesmerizing power".
The author was presented with the £50,000 prize by the Duchess of Cornwall. All the shortlisted authors, including the winner, receive a cheque for £2,500 and a designer bound copy of their book.
The other books nominated were A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara, Satin Island by Tom McCarthy, The Year of the Runaways by Sunjeev Sahota, The Fishermen: A Novel by Chigozie Obioma, and A Spool of Blue Thread by Anne Tyler.
