A man and a woman, both in their 30s, have been arrested after a shotgun and ammunition were recovered in County Cork.

A car was stopped by gardaí from Gurranabraher and Anglesea Street during a checkpoint in Clogheenmilcon, Blarney at around 7.30pm yesterday evening.

The checkpoint was being conducted as part of Operation Thor, the special national Garda anti-crime programme.

The man and woman were arrested at the scene and taken to Gurranabraher and Mayfield Garda stations.

Gardaí say their investigations are continuing.
