Customers officers have seized more than 27,000 cigarettes after stopping a man and woman at Dublin Airport.
Revenue said the two Moldovan nationals were searched and arrested yesterday following “routine profiling”.
The Marlboro Gold-branded cigarettes are said to have a retail value in excess of €14,500, representing a loss of around €11,600 to the exchequer.
The pair, both in their 30s, had arrived in Dublin on a flight from Istanbul. The cigarettes were found in their checked-in baggage.
They appeared in Dublin District Court this morning and were remanded in custody to Cloverhill Prison.
The man and woman are due back before the same court on Monday.
