The trial of a man accused of stabbing a man to death in Dublin has heard he sent a Facebook message to a friend saying he had just murdered someone.

Wayne Kennedy, 33, of Rathsallagh Park, Shankill, Dublin 18 denies stabbing David Spain to death in the early hours of December 26 2013.

The Central Criminal Court has heard that Sean Turner, a professional heavyweight boxer, received a text from Wayne Kennedy at around 4.45am on St. Stephen’s Day 2013.

The accused was looking for repayment of a €50 euro debt, and they arranged a straightener, or fist fight, in the green at Rathsallagh Park in Shankill.

Mr Kennedy allegedly brought a kitchen knife with him and stabbed Mr Turner twice.

The boxer lost five pints of blood and underwent emergency surgery but has since made a full recovery.

It is the prosecution’s case that Mr Turner’s friend David Spain, who had returned from Australia to spend Christmas with his family, ran after the accused after the fight and was stabbed to death by him.
