A male pedestrian in his 40s has died after being struck by an SUV in Drogheda.

The man was knocked down on the Slane Road, just outside the town, at around 10.20pm last night.

Gardaí said the driver remained at the scene.

The injured man was taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital by ambulance but pronounced dead on arrival.

The road at the scene has been closed to facilitate an examination by garda forensic collision investigators.
