The Health Service Executive (HSE) has launched an inquiry into an incident at Loughlinstown Hospital in Dublin.

It follows the death of an elderly woman with Alzheimers, who died two days after she was attacked by a male patient.

It is understood the woman, who was in her 70s, was rushed to St Vincent's Hospital in Dublin after the attack on May 17th.

She underwent surgery there and later died.

The Irish Mirror says her family was initially told the woman had been injured in a fall.

The HSE has confirmed it is investigating the incident and says a separate garda inquiry is underway.
