Two people are feared dead after a house fire in County Mayo.
Emergency services were called to the fire at a house in Deerpark on the outskirts of Swinford at around 2am this morning.
It is understood the fire had spread extensively through the property by the time they were notified.
Gardaí said one body has been recovered from the “extensively damaged” home and remains at the scene this afternoon.
It is understood that a search is ongoing within the remains of the building as Gardaí are aware of a second person who may have been in the home during the fire.
Several units of the Mayo Fire Service spent a number of hours bringing the fire under control.
Gardaí and emergency services remain at the scene this lunchtime.
The house has been sealed off for a technical examination aimed at finding the cause of the fire.
The office of the local Coroner has been notified.
