The Labour Court is preparing a recommendation to assist in resolving the industrial dispute at Irish Rail.

Talks between management and unions took place at the Labour Court earlier on Thursday.

Following the talks the NBRU, SIPTU, UNITE, TSSA and the TEEU issued a joint statement.

It says following submissions made by all parties, the court said that it believed it could issue a recommendation that would assist in resolving the pay dispute at the company.

It is believed the recommendation will be issued on Friday evening.

The trade unions will meet on Friday afternoon to consider the recommendation.

Irish Rail have said they hope negotiations will lead to a calling off of three further planned strike days.

More actions are planned on Tuesday November 14th, Thursday November 23rd and Friday December 8th.

Tens of thousands of commuters are potentially facing disruption.

Management say they offered a 1.75% pay rise, based on new productivity measures.

However, unions rejected the deal - with Irish Rail workers saying they still have not been offered a 'no-strings' attached deal.

Workers are calling for a pay increase of 3.75% a year for the next three years - with unions saying staff have not been awarded a pay rise since 2008.
