A builder from Co Kerry has won €500,000 in the EuroMillions Plus draw last Tuesday.

The lucky man, who wishes to remain private, bought a €6 Quick Pick in Spar Express on the Castlemaine Road in Tralee.

Speaking as he picked up his prize at Lotto headquarters, he said he had been planning on emigrating as things are not good for builders in Kerry at the minute.

But he has changed his mind and will now be staying put.

"I checked the results after the draw, then I put the ticket back in my pocket and went into the town for a few pints" said the Kerry man as he collected his prize.

"Things aren't good if you are a builder in Kerry. I'd been planning to emigrate to make a better life for myself. Now I don't need to," he added.

The EuroMillions jackpot tonight is an estimated €30m.
