Gardaí say the body of a woman missing from Athlone has been found.

Kathleen Reilly had been missing since Thursday June 16th.

She was last seen near the Primary Care Centre in Clonbrusk, walking in the direction of Coosan at that time.

An extensive garda appeal was launched to try and locate her, and they have thanked the public for their assistance.

Her body was found on Tuesday night and removed to the morgue at Tullamore Hospital.

A post mortem is expected to take place.
