An elderly man has told a jury he was amazed to discover that his will left half his estate to the children of his solicitor.

Thomas Davis is now aged in his 80s and is giving evidence in the trial of district court judge and former solicitor Heather Perrin.

The 60-year-old with an address at Lambay Court in Malahide denies deceptively inducing Mr. Davis to bequeath half of his estate to Sybill and Adam Perrin in January 2009.

Mr. Davis is now being cross-examined by defence lawyers.

Earlier he told the jury that he and his wife Ada were old, old friends with their former solicitor Heather Perrin.

She was executor of his will which he said he signed on January 22nd 2009 at her offices without it being read over to him because she appeared to be in a hurry.

‘Could not believe it’

Asked by the prosecution what his reaction was when he found out months later that the will left half his estate to her two children he said he was amazed and could not believe it.

He said he had trusted the former solicitor.

The jury has heard in garda interviews the judge said she had acted on instructions of her client and that he had expressed concern about leaving all of his estate to his 2 nieces because they had squandered money in the past.

Mr. Davis has denied expressing any such concerns.
