Enda Kenny says Jean-Claude Juncker will be elected as the next European Commission President, despite continued reports linking the Taoiseach with the position.
Enda Kenny is attending the European Council Summit in Belgium.
However the identity of the next Commission President will dominate the agenda. It comes as the British Prime Minister David Cameron and other leaders circulate the Taoiseach's name as a possible alternative should Mr. Juncker fail to be elected.
Speaking ahead of his departure, Enda Kenny he cannot see a scenario in which that happens.
The leaders of the main European parties agreed in May to put forward Jean-Claude Juncker as the next President of the European Commission.
The Presidents of the so-called 'Europarties' say Mr. Juncker should be the first candidate after his party, The EPP, won the most seats in the European elections.
Mr. Juncker served as Prime Minister of Luxembourg for over 18 years between 1995 and 2013.
He was elected by the EPP Congress held in Dublin earlier this year as the EPP candidate for President of the European Commission ahead of the European elections.
Mr. Kenny is also participating in a ceremony marking the 100th anniversary of the start of World War I.
