A young Cork woman who died while trekking in Africa has been named locally as Majella Duffy.
The 35-year-old from Fermoy was with a charity fundraising group who had travelled to Mount Kilimanjaro.
It is understood she became unwell while being treated by a doctor at the scene.
The cause of her death is not yet known.
The Department of Foreign Affairs is providing consular assistance to the woman’s family.
In a statement, the Earth's Edge travel group said: "A client of ours has passed away on the 14th July 2017 at 8.15am local time while on Kilimanjaro.
"Our thoughts and condolences are with her family. We will provide further information on this incident in due course."
Local Councillor Deirdre O'Brien says the community is in shock.
She said: "[She was] a perfectly person heading off, in her prime - so fit and everything [...] It's just a sad loss for everyone."
