An Irishman has died while holidaying in the Canary Islands.

Spanish police say the 32-year-old man was found dead at an apartment in the beach town of Mogán in Gran Canaria.

He was found dead at around 2:15pm local time on Monday.

The man was found face down with a head injury and police are now investigating whether he died violently.

A spokesperson for the Department of Foreign Affairs said officials are aware of the case and are providing consular assistance.
