Australian Tax Officials have announced that they are looking at introducing changes to the tax policy for foreign workers.

No confirmation of the changes have been given yet but tax experts at Taxback.com are urging any Irish people that have worked in Australia in the last 10 years to submit their refund application and ensure that  they get what they are owed.

Eileen Devereux, Australian Tax Manager with Taxback.com, said:

“The Australian tax year ends on June 30th so anyone who has worked Down Under before this date is now eligible to apply for their tax refund”

She said that the proposals will be addressed again after the election.

“If they go ahead this could be the last year that Irish workers can avail of the old tax regime”.

Every year a large amount of money is left unclaimed because people are simply unaware of their entitlements or think that the process of applying is not worth it.

Taxback.com said that on average their customers get a refund of $2600 for income tax and and $3380 for superannuation.

“Basically, if you’ve worked and paid tax in Australia, it’s well worth your while checking whether you can claim it back,” said Ms. Devereux.
