Irish naval ship rescued 111 migrants from Libyan coast

The LÉ Róisin has rescued 111 migrants from a vessel off the Libyan coast.

The bodies of two women were also recovered from a rubber boat, around 37 nautical miles north west of Tripoli.

The operation began at 06.50am and all migrants were on board the Róisin by 09.40.

They are receiving food, water and medical treatment where required.

The LÉ Róisín is heading towards the Port of Lampedusa where the migrants will be transferred over to Italian authorities.

The ship left Cork on the 2nd of May to join the international search and rescue operation in the Mediterranean.

Before Thursday's operation, the ship had already rescued 782 people to date.
