An Irishman in his 50s has been arrested after 15 people were found in the back of a lorry in the UK last night.
Police said a member of the public alerted officers about a lorry travelling on the A350 road in Chippenham at around 8:30pm last night.
It is believed the driver alerted Police when he heard banging in the back of the truck.
He is being held on suspicion of assisting illegal entry into the country.
Meanwhile, an Irish company based in County Cork has confirmed that it owns the vehicle.
Sean Delaney & Sons in Glanmire confirmed to Cork's 96FM that it is investigating the circumstances surrounding the discovery.
When police arrived, the found 15 people - all thought to be men or boys, aged between 16 and 30 - in the back of the truck.
Their nationalities were not immediately clear.
14 of those discovered were deemed 'fit and well', while another was taken to hospital as a precaution.
All 15 people have now been arrested on suspicion of entering the UK illegally, and remain in police custody this morning.
Wiltshire Police Duty Superintendent Steve Cox said: "We are working closely with partner agencies as we conduct further enquiries.
"I fully understand that recent tragic events elsewhere in the country will mean there will be increased interest and heightened concern regarding this incident."
He added: "I’d like to thank all emergency services who responded last night – as with all incidents, we didn’t know the scale of what we would potentially be dealing with and all first responders showed true professionalism at the scene."
The Sean Delaney & Sons transport firm in Glanmire in Co Cork confirmed this morning to Cork's 96FM that the lorry was one of theirs.
They say that they are are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
